Serge is a type of twill fabric that has diagonal lines or ridges on both sides.
2/2 right hand twill weave (two-up, two-down weave); worsted yarns.
Silk or wool , and blends, including cotton, rayon, silk or manufactured fibers.
Textural, with striking twill ribbing and slightly lustrous. The back shows the same twill line only in reverse.
In a one-colour (silk and wool) or melange; often dyed navy blue.
Stiff, somewhat sharp to the touch.
Denim is a cotton fabric with a similar weave.
The name is derived from Latin serica, meaning “silken”.

Dresses, suits, trousers and skirts, military uniforms, great coats and trench coats.
Silk serge is used for linings.
